Who is Wispr Flow for?
A good fit if you …
- write a lot of emails, messages or notes every day,
- want to capture thoughts before they’re gone,
- type slowly or want to spare your wrists and neck,
- often write longer replies on your phone.
Probably not if you …
- mainly work with confidential client, health or HR data,
- sit in an open-plan office and can’t or don’t want to speak out loud,
- rarely write – then the free plan or your system’s built-in dictation is enough.
What Wispr Flow does in practice
You hold a key (on a Mac, fn by default), speak and let go. The text appears wherever your cursor is – in your email client, the browser, Word or team chat.
An example
You say: “Hi Anna, thanks for your message, um, I can do Tuesday at five, no, at six. Best, Luigi.”
Wispr Flow writes: “Hi Anna, thanks for your message. I can do Tuesday at six. Best, Luigi” – without the “um”, with the correction applied.

Privacy check (EU / GDPR)
- Where is it processed? In the cloud. Wispr is a US company and processing runs on US services, so your dictation leaves your device.
- Privacy Mode: When it’s on, Wispr’s documentation says dictations are neither stored nor used for training – including by third parties (zero data retention). It is off by default. Turn it on under Settings → Data & Privacy.
- Certifications: Wispr states a SOC 2 Type II audit and offers HIPAA agreements for health data (a US standard). That doesn’t replace a GDPR assessment, but it shows security is taken seriously.
- My recommendation: Switch on Privacy Mode straight away. Fine for your own notes, personal messages and non-sensitive email. For client, health or HR data at work, ask your IT or data protection officer first.

FAQ
Does Wispr Flow work in German and other languages?
Yes. According to Wispr, it recognises more than 100 languages, including German, and adds punctuation automatically. It learns names and technical terms through its own dictionary.
Is Wispr Flow free?
There is a free plan with 2,000 words per week on desktop and 1,000 words per week on mobile (as of October 2026). Pro costs 15 US dollars a month, or 12 US dollars a month billed annually, and removes the limit.
Is Wispr Flow GDPR-compliant?

What is Wispr Flow’s Privacy Mode?
A setting under Settings → Data & Privacy. When it is on, Wispr says dictations are neither stored nor used for training (zero data retention). It is off by default and should be switched on right after installation.
