Claude Personal Finance: AI now reads your bank transactions

On November 5, 2026, Anthropic introduced Personal Finance in Claude. You link bank and card accounts and ask questions about your money, starting as a beta for Pro, Max and Ultra subscribers in the US.

Key facts

  • Anthropic introduced Personal Finance in Claude on November 5, 2026, as a beta for Pro, Max and Ultra subscribers in the US.
  • Accounts connect through Plaid with read-only access; Claude sees up to two years of transactions but cannot move money.
  • Anthropic says there are no ads or sponsored recommendations, and Personal Finance conversations aren't used for training.

What it does

Personal Finance is its own section in Claude's sidebar. Once you connect your accounts, Claude answers questions based on your balances and transactions. According to Anthropic, it can:

  • total your spending and group it by category
  • compare the current month with previous ones
  • flag possible issues such as duplicate charges, unexpected fees or bills that have crept up over time
  • calculate the interest you've paid
  • build weekly spending charts, bill calendars and adjustable dashboards

How the connection works

Accounts are linked through Plaid. You sign in to your bank there and grant read-only access; Anthropic says Claude never sees your bank password. For the accounts you choose, Claude can see the bank name, account type, the last four digits, balances, credit limits and up to two years of transactions. It cannot move, manage or invest money, and you can unlink accounts at any time.

Anthropic also stresses there are no ads, no sponsored recommendations and no credit cards or loans of its own. Conversations in the Personal Finance hub are not used for model training, the company says. The feature is not investment advice, and Anthropic recommends checking important numbers against your bank.

Availability

The beta is rolling out this week to Pro, Max and Ultra plans in the US only. Anthropic hasn't given a date for other countries. TechCrunch notes that OpenAI has offered similar personal finance tools in ChatGPT since May 2026.

What this means for you

  • AI assistants are starting to work with your real data, not just what you paste into a chat.
  • Outside the US, the feature isn't available yet and there's no launch date.
  • For freelancers and small teams, routine spending reviews could turn into a single question.

How to use this

You can run a spending check today without the new feature: export the last three months of transactions from your online banking and highlight every recurring payment you could cancel or renegotiate.

Luigi's take

The most useful part, to me, isn't the charts. It's the alerts for creeping subscriptions and duplicate charges. That's where freelancers and small teams quietly lose money every month, because nobody has time to go through statements line by line. If AI takes that over, it's real value rather than a gimmick.

Still, linking your accounts to an AI service is a trust decision you should make deliberately. Whether or not you use it, my advice is simple: block one hour per quarter to review every recurring payment. Asking "do I still need this?" often saves more than any tool.
