The best AI marketing tools, compared by the job you need done

Short answer

There’s no single best AI marketing tool: a chat assistant like ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini covers copy and ideas, and for everything else you pick a specialist that fixes your biggest bottleneck. Start on free plans, pay only once a workflow has saved you time for four weeks, and check the data processing terms before any customer data goes in.

How to choose the right AI tool

Most tool lists rank by popularity. That’s the wrong order for your week. A tool only pays off if it fixes a specific bottleneck you feel every week. So run every tool through five checks before you spend money:

Five criteria, in this order
  1. Bottleneck

Which task costs you the most time each week? Only look for a tool for that. Everything else is a toy.

  2. Price

Monthly or annual, per seat or per channel? Use the price after the trial, in your currency.

  3. Free plan

Is there a permanent free plan or only a trial? A free plan lets you test calmly on real work.

  4. Privacy and hosting

Is there a data processing agreement, where is data stored, can you opt out of training on your data?

  5. Integration

Does it work with what you already use: website, email platform, CRM, calendar, ChatGPT or Claude?

1. Bottleneck before tool

For one week, write down where your marketing time goes: posts, newsletters, images, proposals, meetings, reporting. The task with the most hours is your bottleneck. Only then look at the tables below, and only at the row that matches.

2. Work out the real price

Many vendors headline the monthly price on annual billing; month-to-month is often 15 to 25 percent more. Some charge per seat (Granola, Fyxer, Jasper), some per channel (Buffer), some by contacts (MailerLite, Brevo) or by credits (Kling, Julius, Chatbase). Price it for your actual volume: how many people, channels, contacts and videos a month?

3. Free plan or trial

A permanent free plan is ideal to start: ChatGPT, Claude, Canva, Buffer, Upload-Post, MailerLite, Brevo, Granola and Julius all have one. Others only offer a short trial (Chatbase 7 days, Krisp 7 days, Jasper 7 days, Fyxer 14 days on the Team plan). Schedule a trial for a week when you’ll actually do the work, not just click around.

4. Check privacy and hosting

Ideas, drafts and research rarely need personal data. Once names, email addresses or customer history are involved, you need a data processing agreement with the vendor and a lawful basis, especially if you market to people in the EU under GDPR. Ask about the agreement, where data is processed and whether your inputs are used for training. We deliberately don’t rate tools on this: terms change, and your privacy adviser should make the call.

5. Integration over feature count

A tool with fewer features that talks directly to your email platform or AI assistant saves more time than an all-in-one you have to copy everything out of. Look for connectors to ChatGPT and Claude (often called MCP), Zapier and your CRM. Brevo and Upload-Post, for example, say they can be run straight from ChatGPT and Claude.

Copy, chat and research

Your chat assistant is the all-purpose tool: ideas, drafts, summaries, analysis. The big three are close in quality. What matters is where your team already works (Google, Microsoft, standalone) and whether you can set up projects with lasting context, such as your brand brief.

Our take: most solo marketers need one paid chat assistant. Paying for two only makes sense if you write long copy daily and genuinely notice the difference. Jasper is built for marketing teams that need a shared brand voice and approvals; for individuals it’s expensive by comparison.

Images and graphics

There are two routes: template design (social posts, slides, ads) and generated photos (scenes, people, product worlds). Canva covers the first; Kling, ChatGPT and Gemini cover the second.

ChatGPT / GeminiImages right in the chat, quick variantsLimitedIncluded in Plus / Google AIPricing

As of Nov 7, 2026. Kling only shows prices after sign-in, so we don’t quote a figure.

Two things to watch with generated images. First, brand consistency: a fixed prompt skeleton for light, colour and framing keeps your images looking like a set. Second, disclosure: if you reach people in the EU, realistic AI images of people who don’t exist must be disclosed under the AI Act since August 2, 2026 where they could pass as real. More in our AI marketing guide.

Video, UGC and ad creative

AI video has split three ways: generated scenes (Kling), AI actors who deliver a script on camera (Arcads), and tools built to produce ad variants for Meta and Google (Superscale).

ToolStrengthFreePaid fromMore

SuperscaleAd creative for Meta and GoogleFree credits, then a 5-day trialFrom $99/moOverview

Set expectations: an AI video is quick to make, but it doesn’t bring reach on its own. Idea, a hook in the first two seconds and format are what carry a video. And never present an AI actor as a real customer; the FTC’s endorsement rules apply in the US, and consumer law does in the EU.

Social media scheduling

Scheduling tools save the back-and-forth between apps: upload once, tailor copy per channel, pick a time. What’s new is that some can post straight from an AI chat.

ToolStrengthFreePaid fromMore
Upload-PostMany platforms, post straight from ChatGPT or ClaudeYes, 10 uploads/mo, 2 profiles, no TikTokBasic $16/mo annual, $24 monthlyOverview

CanvaSocial content planner on paid plansNo (planner)From ProPricing

As of Nov 7, 2026, from the linked pricing pages.

Rule of thumb: up to three channels and a handful of posts, a free plan is enough. If you post daily across several platforms, or want videos published automatically from an AI workflow, you’ll end up on a paid plan. With new Instagram accounts, keep it to one automated post a day or risk a spam block. We learned that one the hard way.

SEO and GEO: show up in Google and in AI answers

Alongside classic SEO, GEO (generative engine optimization) matters more and more: being named in answers from ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity or Google’s AI Overviews. A new category of tools asks AI assistants questions on a schedule and tracks whether your brand appears.

A tracking tool doesn’t replace the content work: clear answers at the top of the page, sources, structured data, author details and mentions on other sites. Tracking pays off once you’re working on this regularly and want to see whether it moves.

Leads, CRM and website chat

This is about turning visitors into enquiries and not losing them: a chatbot that answers questions right away and a CRM that remembers who wanted what.

Analysis is the use case people skip most. Load your campaign and newsletter numbers into an analysis tool once a month and ask “What changed, and why?” You’ll often find more than in hours of clicking through dashboards. Deciding what to do about it stays with you.

Three ready-made stacks: $0, about $50 and about $200 a month

These are suggestions for freelancers and small teams who run their own social, newsletter and website. Figures from vendor pricing pages on Nov 7, 2026, mixed dollar and euro prices, excluding tax, rounded.

Start for less: Black Friday and discounts

Many AI tools discount annual plans around Black Friday and Cyber Monday. If a tool from this list is already on your shortlist, waiting until late November can pay off. But don’t buy for the discount alone: an annual plan for a tool you stop opening after three weeks is too expensive even at 50 percent off.

Five mistakes when picking tools

  1. Starting with the tool, not the bottleneck. A new tool with no recurring job behind it is forgotten within two weeks.
  2. Buying annual too early. Test for four weeks on free or monthly, then switch to annual. The discount only pays if you use it.
  3. Paying twice. Many features already live in tools you pay for: image generation in ChatGPT, AI copy in Canva, AI features in Brevo and HubSpot.
  4. Customer data without an agreement. Pasting customer lists into a free tool without a data processing agreement is a privacy problem, whatever the tool.
  5. Trusting old price lists. AI tools change pricing and plans several times a year. Always check the vendor’s pricing page before you buy; we update this page with a date.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best AI tool for marketing?

There isn’t one. A chat assistant like ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini covers copy, ideas and research. Specialists pay off for single jobs: Canva for graphics, Upload-Post or Buffer for social, MailerLite or Brevo for email, Rankscale for visibility in AI search. Your biggest bottleneck decides.

Which AI marketing tools are free?

Permanent free plans include ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Canva, Buffer (up to 3 channels), Upload-Post (10 uploads a month), MailerLite (up to 250 subscribers), Brevo, Granola (notes kept 30 days), Julius and HubSpot (CRM for up to 2 users), as of November 7, 2026.

How much does Claude Pro cost?

Claude Pro costs $20 a month billed monthly or $17 a month billed annually ($200 up front), per claude.com as of November 7, 2026. Claude Free costs nothing.

ChatGPT or Claude for marketing?

Both handle copy, ideas and analysis well. ChatGPT has more built-in features like image generation and custom GPTs; Claude is strong at long-form copy and keeping a consistent voice through projects with your brand brief. Test both free on the same task and decide on the result.

How much should I spend on AI tools?

Free plans are enough to start. Once a workflow works, about $50 a month for a chat assistant, design and scheduling is realistic. Around $200 only pays off with regular ads and several channels. Large companies put 15.3 percent of their marketing budget into AI on average, according to Gartner.

Are AI marketing tools GDPR-compliant?

That depends on the tool, the contract and how you use it. Before processing personal data, check whether the vendor offers a data processing agreement, where data is processed and whether you can opt out of training. Ideas and drafts usually need no personal data.

Is Jasper worth it for freelancers?

Jasper is built for marketing teams with a shared brand voice and costs from $59 per seat a month billed annually, with no free plan. For individuals, a chat assistant with a stored brand brief at about $20 a month usually does the same job.
